SERMON: As The World Turns
SCRIPTURE: Ecclesiastes 3:2-8
RESPONSIVE READING: THE BEATITUDES
Leader: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
Everyone: Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Leader: Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth
Everyone: Blessed .are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled
Leader: Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy
Everyone: Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God
Leader Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God
Everyone: Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Leader: Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Everyone: Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH—CONFESSION OF 1967
God has created human beings for a personal relation with Himself that they may respond to the love of the Creator. God has created male and female and given them a life which proceeds from birth to death in a succession of generations and in a wide complex of social relations. God has endowed humans with capacities to make the world serve their needs and to enjoy its good things. Life is a gift to be received with gratitude and a task to be pursued with courage. People are free to seek life within the purpose of God: to develop and protect the resources of nature for the common welfare, to work for justice and peace in society, and in other ways to use their creative powers for the fulfillment of human life
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name
Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
