SERMON:  One of God's Greatest Gifts
SCRIPTURE:  Luke 1:46-55

UNISON READING:  Luke 1:46-55
And Mary Said, my soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant.  Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.  His mercy is for those who fear Him from generation to generation .  He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.  He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and li9fted up the lowly; He has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty.  He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy, according to the promi9se He made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH—Confession of 1967
God has created human beings for a personal relation with Himself that they may respond to the love of the Creator.  God has created male and female and given them a life which proceeds from birth to death in a succession of generations and in a wide complex of social relations.  God has endowed humans with capacities to make the world serve their needs and to enjoy its good things.  Life is a gift to be received with gratitude and a task to be pursued with courage.  People are free to seek life within the purpose of God:  to develop and protect the resources of nature for the common welfare, to work for justice and peace in society, and in other ways to use their creative powers for the fulfillment of human life.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name
Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen
