SERMON: He Leaves A Message
SCRIPTURE: Matthew 4:18-21
RESPONSIVE READING: BY ALLEN BOESAK
Leader: We are called to proclaim the truth. And let us believe: It is not true that this world and its people are doomed to die and to be lost.
Everyone: This is true: I have come that they may have life in all its abundance.
Leader: It is not true that we must accept inhumanity and discrimination, hunger and
poverty, death and destruction.
Everyone This is true: the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, the poor are
hearing the good news.
Leader: It is not tre that violence and hatred should have the last word, and that war
and destruction have come to stay forever.
Everyone: This is true: death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning
nor crying nor pain anymore.
Leader: It is not true that we are simply victims of the powers of evil who seek to rule the world.
Everyone: This is true: God is present in our midst, empowering us to stand tall
and resist.
Leader: It is not true that our dreams of liberation, of human dignity, are not meant
for this earth and for this history.
Everyone: This is true: It is time for us to wake from sleep. For the night is far
gone; the day is at hand.
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH—CONFESSION OF 1967
We acknowledge that God’s sovereign love is a mystery beyond the reach of human minds. We ascribe to God superlatives of power, wisdom, and goodness. But in Jesus Christ God reveals love by showing power in the form of a servant, wisdom in the folly of the cross, and goodness in receiving sinful people. The power of God’s love in Christ transforms the world and discloses that the Redeemer is the Lord and Creator who made all things to serve the purpose of His love..
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name
Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
Anthem: In His Love
Benediction: Kay's Song by Kay Henry (Responsive hymn with Congregation)
