SERMON: A Powerful Life
SCRIPTURE: Micah 6:2-3
RESPONSIVE READING
Leader: God of grace and justice. We pray today for all those in the world under war, famine, oppression. Let us always remember that.
Everyone: Our faith cares about human development, about the political aspects of life. We choose to be people of faith that is for what Jesus says in the Beatitudes
Leader: Some want to keep a faith so disembodied that it doesn’t get involved at all in the world it must save.
Everyone: People of faith, entrusted with the earth’s glory, believes that in each person is the Creator’s imaged that everyone who tramples it offends God
Leader: When people of faith hear the cry of the oppressed it cannot but denounce the social structures that give rise to and perpetuate the the misery from which the cry arises. We pray as your people who have been called in faith to follow God’s love the force that will overcome the world
Everyone: Let us not tire of preaching love; it is the force that will overcome the world. God is not satisfied with appearance, God wants the garment of justice, God wants His people of faith dressed in love.
Leader: Let us not forget; we are pilgrim people, subject to misunderstanding, to persecution, but people that walk serene, because it bears the force of love.
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH--APOSTLES CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name
Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
