SERMON: God Believes in Lost Causes, and in Us
SCRIPTURE: Joshua 6:2-5

RESPONSIVE READING—FROM INTERFAITH PRAYER VIGIL FOR IMMIGRANT JUSTICE
Leader: Holy One, free us of fear of the other, free us of fear of the different.  Give us strength to see that which joins all peoples, help us to live in a peace based on justice and love.
Everyone: Our creator made this world and declared all within it good.  Let us see that all of humanity is endowed with the goodness of the divine.
Leader: Holy One, strengthen us with purpose, turn us from anger toward love, turn us from division to unity, turn us from indifference toward caring.  Remind us when our spirit flags, that the peacemaker is blessed, the meek is blessed, those that hunger and thirst for justice are blessed, and that we who mourn the brokenness of our country, are blessed too.
Everyone: Let these blessings renew our hope for a better world where the stranger is welcomed, the refugee is protected, And the immigrant finds love in the community.  Inspire our work in the days, weeks, months, years ahead, to bring the vision of the Divine to our communities and country.

APOSTLES CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried.  He descended into hell.  On the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name
Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen
