SERMON:  The Lord's Prayer, Part 4:  Temptation and Evil
SCRIPTURE:  John 8:1-11

RESPONSIVE READING—IMMIGRANT PRAYER
Leader: Recalling that Our Lord told His disciples to ‘let the children come to me’ that we may welcome the children of immigrants and work to provide security and dignity to the lives of their families.
Everyone:  Let us pray to the Lord.  Lord have mercy.
Leader:  For the children of immigrants who continue to live in poverty and fear of separation, that our actions for conversion of hearts and minds will bring them dignity and comfort.
Everyone: Let us pray to the Lord.  Lord have mercy.
Leader:  For the children, whose families are broken and separated because of the current deportation systems, that God will guide their families to be reunited while we work for reform of the immigration systems.
Everyone:  Let us pray to the Lord.  Lord have mercy.
Leader:  For the unaccompanied migrant children, that they may be protected from all harm and reunited with loving families.
Everyone:  Let us pray to the Lord.  Lord have mercy.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH—CONFESSION OF 1967
We acknowledge that God’s sovereign love is a mystery beyond the reach of human minds.  We ascribe to God superlatives of power, wisdom, and goodness.  But in Jesus Christ God reveals love by showing power in the form of a servant, wisdom in the folly of the cross, and goodness in receiving sinful people.  The power of God’s love in Christ transforms the world and discloses that the Redeemer is the Lord and Creator who made all things to serve the purpose of His love.. ~

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name
Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen
